Do I need creativity to learn English? Good question, easy answer: no, you don’t need to be creative to learn English. You need creativity for your life.
It is believed that creativity belongs to artists, poets, musicians. And ladies!
The colours on the palette before the painter, the naked stone before the sculptor, the musical notes in the ear of a composer could not be called pieces of art unless the artist will shape, transform and raise those elements from their insignificant status up to the dimension of art-works with their imagination or inspiration.
It is also believed that ladies and girls are more creative than men and boys: to be honest I agree with this evidence, creativity is feminine quality! Does someone have any doubt?
Following Doris Day’s song “A Woman’s Touch“ in the musical Calamity Jane (watch the movie here if you haven’t done yet)- creativity can also be called the “Artist touch”!
And this is what we need: an Artist Touch that has the potential to change the existing things and to create something new out of nothing!
Why?
Our times are challenging. Our daily life is becoming more and more problematic.
A manager needs to solve problems and get people working together for a common target.
An engineer has to find solutions beyond his technical skills if he wants to match the customer satisfaction.
A software analyst has to dive into a corner of his brain to imagine a new application that can facilitate several daily tasks to end-users.
In marketing, publicity, HR recruitment it is more and more necessary to be creative, flexible, skilled, enthusiastic, to be decision makers as well as “vision” builders.
Certainly, we all need creativity more than it was necessary in the old past times.
Creativity is strictly related to awareness: an essential foundation for problem solving and team building.
Creativity is urgently needed in managing and harmonising our troubled social life in larger or smaller communities, to heal social relations and solve the roots of conflicts and wars.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][quote align=”right” color=”#3399ff”][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Creativity can also be seen as relation with your Self, as capability to understand and positively share your ideas, passions, talents.
Awaking creativity helps people to “feel good”, to grow in self-confidence as well as in tolerance, to understand and respect one other.
Creative activities are an essential part of the Active English Learning for one simple reason: we all need to be creative!
Last summer a lucky circumstance led me to set the ground for a new creative programme -literally fully creative– with the welcomed support of Plymouth College of Arts.
This new programme is called “Art & Language” and is designed especially for Young People who want to improve their English skills while caring for their own wellbeing: awaking their creativity, nourishing self-confidence, growing enthusiasm for life and joy of learning.
“Art & Language” for Young People and the “Active English courses” for Teenagers and the “Learn&Play” for Children will all receive a new boost of creativity in 2016: so, if you come to AEL, be prepared to learn English as well as “creativity”!
Skills, creativity, determination: this is what we need and we will do our part to support this direction.
