"Cats Ahoy!" come onboard of Learn&Play!

Lucy Ann Curtin and her husband Peter Bently work together at their company called “Partners in Rhyme”. Lucy will lead workshops in our Learn&Play course this August, playing around the story and the characters of “Cats Ahoy!“, a rhyming picture book about pirate cats that  three years ago has won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, which honours humorous books for children.

Partners in Rhyme is a children’s theatre and storytelling company that my wife Lucy Curtin and I set up in 2007 to perform in schools and theatres and at festivals and other events. Our first show was Ardwenna the Fair, my rhymed story about an arrogant king and a magical princess.

The company is made up of myself as writer/actor and Lucy as director/actor, plus other performers and musicians – including our son Theo and daughter Tara! – as we need them. Lucy, who also works as a storyteller, trained at Webber Douglas, one of London’s leading drama schools. Most of our performers are professionally trained. Oh, and not everything we do is in rhyme.”  [from Peter’s website].

“In schools the focus is literacy but we aim to show that ‘literacy’ encompasses creative expression and communication in the widest sense embracing writing, performance, art, design and music…”. he also writes on his website.

As I know how much my children enjoyed reading Peter’s books, I am pretty sure that all the children and parents of our Learn&Play course this summer will enjoy the workshops with Lucy just as much!

She will lead the workshops with children and parents with enthusiasm and eventually perform with them on the final day the humorous story of “Cats Ahoy!”.

Cats Ahoy! is a swashbuckling tale of pirate plunderderring do and a huge haul of haddock! When Alfonso the cat hears there’s a boat coming into harbour carrying its largest ever catch, he hatches a plan. It’s brave! It’s bold! And it involves a ghost pirate ship, some rather gullible fishermen, and cats … LOTS of cats…” [from Jim Field, the illustrator of Cats Ahoy!]

May I suggest to include Peter’s books in your reading list this summer: you can buy Peter’s books on Amazon in your own country or from Jim Field’s online store.

If you want to reserve with AEL, please send a contact form now, giving your details, book title(s) and number of copies per each book.

Looking forward to seeing you in August, Cats Ahoy!!!

Miaow!
